Imagine building a business that will last for more than 200 years! What would your business look like, if you built it around your passion?
Solomon Berkelouw started Berkelouw Books in Holland in 1812, trading in vellum-bound theology books.
His grandson, Hartog, developed the catalogues that gained Berkelouw an international reputation.
In 1948, his son Isidoor liquidated the company & migrated to Sydney. He issued his first local catalogue and a opened a store in King St.
In 1977, Isidoor’s sons relocated the business to ‘Bendooley’, an historic property near Berrima, NSW. New stores in NSW followed.
Today, in the care of the sixth generation, Berkelouw Books is Australia’s largest rare, antiquarian, second-hand & new bookseller, with a stock in excess of 2 million books. Books are their passion & their business.
An old & fruitful tree of Rotterdam, Holland, now firmly planted in the soil of Australia, is continuing to feed booklovers around the world.
A visit to the Bendooley Book Barn is a wonderful experience. The restaurant feeds the body, the service feeds the soul and then there are the books – new & second-hand and endlessly tempting.
My passion is optimising outcomes for leaders. What’s yours?
